How does the American education system differ from what you are used to in Panama?

Education in Panama
The education system in Panama is separated into three levels: Primary school (six years) secondary school (six years) and university or higher education. The first six years of primary education are required for all children. A high percentage go on to enroll in secondary school.
Education in the USA
Education in the United States is provided in public and private schools and by individuals through homeschooling. State governments set overall educational standards, often mandate standardized tests for K–12 public school systems, and supervise, usually through a board of regents, state colleges, and universities.

It's been a long journey that brought me here, but I have the feeling the actual journey has just started. After receiving the big news, my expectation went up to the sky, and I started to prepare for this moment. Nevertheless, I can tell now, no preparation was enough. From the very moment, I stepped on this campus I became aware that what was ahead of me was something big. I can't explain in words how excited I am while writing this email.
